The following organizations provide a wide variety of services that may be helpful to nursing students and nurses with disabilities. The resources may assist nursing information, advocacy, and support groups. Resources for captioned films, large print books, recorded and Braille-reading materials are included.
Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf - AGBA emphasizes oral-deaf education. Materials are available for parents, professionals and oral-deaf adults.
American Printing House for the Blind Career Connect - A resource for people who want to learn about jobs performed by adults who are blind or visually impaired throughout the United States and Canada. Click on Explore Careers (Registered Nurses).
The Amputee Coalition of America - This organization provides peer support, resources, newsletters, and information to people with limb loss or limb differences. They will link students or nurses to nurses with similar challenges.
Association of Nurses in Aids Care - The ANAC offers a quarterly newsletter for HIV+ nurses and students.

Canine Companions for Independence - Canine Companions for Independence® provides highly-trained assistance dogs for children and adults with disabilities, free of charge.
Caption First, Inc., - Provides instantaneously translated text known as CART/captioning (one-on-one, Internet, overhead) for people (nurses) with hearing loss in classrooms, clinical settings, meetings and seminars. Contact us for a free demonstration.
Captioned Media Programs - This is a free loan service. They offer over 4,000 open-captioned educational and general interest programs that do not require a decoder.
The Cochlear Implant Association - A nonprofit organization for cochlear implant recipients, their families, professionals, and other individuals interested in cochlear implants.
Harris Family Center for Disability and Health Policy - Established by Western University in response to the concerns of the disabled community, which is emerging as one of the nation's fastest growing and least understood minority groups.
Hear Ink, - Provides CART (Computer Accessed Realtime Translation). We have the ability to do CART from a remote location so a nurse can hire us from anywhere. We also do realtime captioning, which is live captioning, for events where they are making a video. We also do that from a remote location. This service would benefit nursing students with auditory, physical or learning disabilities. A complete transcript of everything said in the classroom is provided.
International Dyslexia Association - The Association promotes effective teaching approaches and provides guidelines for the College Affiliate Program, a network of support groups for students with dyslexia.
Learning Disabilities Association of America - LDA is a national information and referral service. It provides free information on learning disabilities
Library Reproduction Service (LRS) - LRS produces large print reproductions of any and all educational materials.
National Center for Learning Disabilities - This site provides information, resources and referral sources
National Federation of the Blind - This organization provides information, advocacy, scholarships, aids, appliances and technology.
Library of Congress - The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped provides free recorded and braille reading materials to persons with documented visual or physical impairments that prevent the reading of standard print material.
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic - This organization provides taped educational books free on loan, books on diskette, library services, and other educational and professional resources to individuals who cannot read standard print because of a visual, physical, or perceptual disability
Social Security Disability Secrets - This site offers information and suggestions for nurses who are applying for Social Security benefits.
Tremor Action Network - A resource for nurses with essential tremors (movement disorders). This organization provides resources, support, newsletters, chats and information about opportunities to participate in clinical trials.
UK Health Professionals with Hearing Loss - A network of UK health professionals with hearing loss who share information and support.
U.S. Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy - One-stop online access to resources, services and information available throughout the Federal government. Resources provide adults with learning and other disabilities with critical information they need.
